It's in the bag...
My friend, Mark is a talented graphic designer and has taken some of his designs and brought them to life via custom made bags.
His artwork showcases his attention to detail of the human form, notably women of his past and present. Each of his pieces are done with heart, his view of ethereal beauty, and exude a dreamlike quality. I have been one of his biggest fans since the beginning when I...
Getting started, finally...
Last week, on our second trip to the IND in Utrecht, I received my residence permit sticker (which is good for 6 months) in my US Passport! Now, I am awaiting my residence permit card that will allow me to work in the Netherlands. It should take from about 6 weeks to 2 months to receive. So now, I wait.
It is so frustrating though because I want to be able to start working straight away. I am...
Smile
Last week, I received an e-mail from Andy and it really brightened my day! He had been walking along the Elephant Parade in Amsterdam and spotted this one:
This e-mail came at the perfect time because I had been busy all week in New York and was a bit flustered. This elephant definitely put a smile on my face after feeling overwhelmed from running around like a chicken with my head cut...
AN EMPIRE STATE OF MIND…
I’m back from New York and I guess I am still jet lagged even after sleeping almost ALL day on Monday.
I had a fantastic trip (albeit exhausting) and it was so nice to be back and see my family and friends. I love that no matter what, I will always know how to get around the streets of New York City without having to look at a map because New York is just in...
Back to NYC only to Go Dutch again...
Tomorrow, I am flying back to New York. I am in two of my girlfriend’s weddings, this coming Saturday and the following. I am also so excited to see my family and friends after not seeing them since coming over here at the end of July. But I’m going to miss Jarno, 10 days is a long time to be away from each other!
Coincidentally, it also happens to be the 400th Anniversary of New...
Birthday Calendar
Today, I bought a birthday calendar. I’ve noticed that every Dutch home that I have been to typically has a calendar in the bathroom where birthdays are listed next to the dates. There are usually lines by the date where you can put a person’s name.
I thought it was a bit weird at first, but its actually genius! I know that facebook lists out all of your friend’s birthdays...
Amsterdam Vespa Summer Ride
This past Saturday, 5 Sept, in Amsterdam, Jarno and I participated in the Vespa Summer Ride. We met at 3pm in the parking lot in front of the Stichting Olympisch Stadion Amsterdam, which was built for the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. It is now a sports museum.
We started out with some coffee and chatted a bit with the other Vespa Fans in the group. By the time we got going, we had around...
Residence Permit
I can not, simply can not wait until I get my residence permit. I have an appointment with the IND to submit all of my paperwork coming up after my trip back to NYC. After that, I will be able to start my Dutch lessons in Nieuwegein which the Gemeente in IJsselstein will set up for me.
Before coming to the Netherlands, I thought that all I needed for a resident’s permit was a notarized...

Mushroom Cheese Risotto Balls
My friend Mike just moved to the Netherlands as well and threw a kick-ass housewarming party on Friday night in Amsterdam. For someone who has only been here for 2 months, he had a great turn out of people. We had such a fabulous time! I told him that I’d make a starter for the party and decided to make some mushroom cheese risotto balls from some left over risotto that I had made the...

American Steak in Utrecht
Utrecht is the city that is nearby us and I actually like it a bit more than Amsterdam because it’s not so touristy. There are great restaurants and shops as well. Plus its only 15 minutes away as opposed to Amsterdam which is about 40 minutes away by car.
A couple of weeks ago, Jarno took me to an American Steak and Ribs place in Utrecht called “Broadway”, located along the...

Miso glazed cod with grilled vegetables
Not only do I love eating, but I love cooking as well. Since moving to the Netherlands, while I am waiting for my resident’s permit, I spend most of my days biking and at the grocery. There is a market in our little town every Friday and we have the most amazing Fish Shop. I spend a lot of my days researching recipes and things to make for dinner. I’m the Real Housewife of...
