Perfect Pancakes
I just had my mother-in-law over for an American Brunch with buttermilk pancakes, eggs, and bacon. It was her first brunch experience and she loved it (whew!)!
Its taken me a few tries to make the perfect American fluffy pancakes. First off, because I couldn’t find the ingredients and second, because I always grew up on the pancake mix from the box and as an adult, still did that. Since...

Who needs flowers...
When you have bacon?
A couple of weeks ago, a friend sent this to me, and its quite possibly the best gift you could ever get your girlfriend (if you never want to get any again). Although this is kind of awesome and I would probably eat it. In case you actually do want to have intimate relations with your girlfriend, buy her flowers and take her out to breakfast (where you can get...

Dutch Word of the Day
Lately, I have been tweeting the Dutch Word of the Day. I recently started a new job and in an effort for me to learn Dutch, my colleagues have instituted the “Word of the Day” for me. However, it’s more like the useless (as well as utterly ridiculous and hilarious all at the same time) word of the day. Its funny to see what kind of words they come up with. So, at the end of...

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!
Last night, Jarno and I had our friends Renée and Ron over for dinner last night. Renée is another American expat that I met through Twitter.
Its always nice to get together with other expats and meet their partners; you realize you’re not alone and that other people have moved abroad and have gone through similar experiences as you have.
Our evening was filled with great company and...

Holland comes to NYC
In an innovative Out-of-Home (OOH) campaign, the Nederlands Bureau voor Toerisme - the Dutch Bureau of Tourism, has brought a bit of Holland to the New York City subway system covering the S train in Times Square with tulips and windmills. The campaign is aimed at getting New Yorkers to see the versatility of what Holland has to offer. After all, New York was originally Nieuw Amsterdam!

Cupcake Cravings...
So, if you follow my recent tweets, I have been seriously craving some cupcakes. In New York City, within the last few years, there have been these awesome cupcake shops opening up everywhere. Magnolia Bakery, Buttercup Bakeshop, Sugar Sweet Sunshine, Baked By Melissa, and the list goes on…
I’m pretty sure that they made the infamous Red Velvet Cupcake famous, but I could be wrong. ...
Peking Duck Bites
Every Christmas Eve, my family gets together for a big dinner. This year, Jarno and I went all out for my family. It was our first Christmas as a couple and it was the first time that a lot of my family members would be meeting Jarno as well.
I made pigs n’ a blanket, stuffed mushrooms, peking duck bites for starters which went in about 5 minutes of people walking through the door.
For...

Is this guy for real?
The stuff people write on Craigslist is hilarious. I love the best of CL.

Facebook Status
I woke up this morning to see many of my female friends on facebook posting colors as their statuses. But some were funny like, nude, or pink with yellow flowers.
One of my male friends actually posed the question, “Why is everyone posting up colors as their status?” Apparently it is a viral campaign using social media as a tool for people to raise Breast Cancer Awareness. ...

So great to be back...
Jarno and I got back to NYC on Saturday. It has been so great to be back home and see my family and friends. We’re here to celebrate the holidays with our family, take a little road trip to Canada, and do some wedding planning.
We have been running around meeting with vendors for the last few days. I was really sad at the start of it all because I always thought that when planning my...
Happy Birthday
Today is what would have been my mother’s 51st birthday.
I love you Mommy. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of you and miss you.
Nicaragua is the next Costa Rica!
In March, I was in Nicaragua with 3 smelly boys (Steve, Jeff, and Gary) and it was seriously one of the best trips I’ve ever been on.
Costa Rica has been a destination for many of my friends and friends of friends as of late as the place to go for adventure travel. I am telling you right now that Nicaragua is the next Costa Rica.
I went for about 8 days and me and my boys did a sort of...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
This is my first Thanksgiving away from home.
Jarno and I celebrated with his family and my new Dutch family this past Sunday. It was really nice to have everyone over and enjoying a meal together and having an American tradition in our Dutch household.
I was searching for a Turkey for Thanksgiving but instead got 3 small chickens because turkeys here are about 11...
Bacn.com
I apologize for not posting in a while. My good friend Steve was in town this week visiting from New York and I was showing him around Holland. We biked around our little town of IJsselstein, had pannenkoeken in Utrecht, and partied in Amsterdam.
Needless to say, I’m exhausted after a fun-filled week with new friends and old!
A former colleague of mine, April, sent me the Bacon website. ...

Thanksgiving in Holland
This year is going to be the first year ever that I will not be home in New York with my family for Thanksgiving. Instead, Jarno and I are going to have and American Thanksgiving at our home in Holland.
I took the time out this morning to plan out my menu (with the help of foodie blogs like Martha Stewart, Saveur, and the Kitchn). I’m actually super excited to introduce Thanksgiving to...
Muz showing at Camaje
My friend Mark is currently showcasing his Muz artwork at Camaje restaurant in New York City located at 85 MacDougal Street (between Bleeker and Houston).
When I was in New York last, I was looking for a couple’s cooking class as a wedding gift for my best friend, Samantha and her now husband Narada. Camaje has great cooking classes in addition to a fantastic menu. When I went in to pick...
